David Jonsson as the next Black Panther feels like a very sensible choice
I spotted the news that David Jonsson has been cast as the grown-up son of T’Challa in Black Panther III, due in cinemas on 15 December 2028. It is a long wait, obviously, but this is one of those casting announcements that makes immediate sense to me. Jonsson has already shown he can do intensity without making every line sound like a trailer.
Why the choice works I mainly know him from Industry and Alien: Romulus, and he has that useful combination of quiet watchfulness and proper screen presence. A new Black Panther needs to feel connected to what came before without simply copying Chadwick Boseman’s performance. That is a difficult balance, especially for a character carrying so much expectation.
A small concern The announcement came from Ryan Coogler at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation, as reported by the Associated Press. I hope the film gives the character room to become his own person, rather than rushing straight into another enormous destiny storyline. The best parts of the first film had political and family tensions underneath the spectacle. More of that would be welcome.
