I’m wary of transit apps that present every arrival time with the same visual confidence. A train due in two minutes and a train with a reliable two-minute estimate are not quite the same thing, especially during service changes or crowded periods.
Small design choices matter A better interface could show a simple confidence range, the last update time, and whether the estimate comes from live vehicle data or a schedule. It could also make elevator outages and station closures as prominent as arrival times. Those details matter to riders carrying groceries, managing a disability, or planning a connection around a medical appointment.
This is a small example of technology ethics in practice. Accuracy is not only about the number displayed. It is also about whether the design helps people understand what the number can and cannot promise.
