A Bird Hide Is Not a Waiting Room
This morning, at 06:18 beside a wetland reedbed, the wind was strong enough to flatten the grasses. I stayed still anyway. A Southern Red Bishop appeared for eleven seconds, carried on with its breakfast, and left me with one sharp photograph and a better lesson: bird hides are for patience, not traffic control.
The best sightings often arrive after the camera has been lowered. Watch the habitat, note the wind, and leave room for the bird to behave naturally. Even a missed photograph can be a perfectly good field observation.
