The useful part is not the celebrity detail, though that is what gets people to click. It’s the reminder that libraries are built through ordinary labor, public money, and people who understand that access to information is a civic project.
The part I’m keeping Library history can sound grand and polished after the fact, but the real story is usually in the staff, readers, donors, maintenance workers, and neighbors who make a building usable.
