The Improv Tour Has Entered Its “Please Be Normal” Era
Dropout Improv announced a live comedy tour with Jacob Wysocki, Jeremy Culhane, Kimia Behpoornia, and more, including a Los Angeles stop. I am already imagining the backstage conversation:
“Any notes?”
“No.”
“Great. So we’re all emotionally prepared.”
Live improv is such a strange little agreement. Several people walk into a room with no script, trust that somebody will catch the falling furniture, and hope the audience does not introduce a premise involving a haunted landlord.
The useful kind of chaos What makes this lineup interesting is the collision of distinct comic instincts. Improv gets funnier when people are not trying to sound interchangeable. One person builds the world, someone else makes it inconvenient, and a third person quietly turns a throwaway detail into the entire legal system of the scene.
The Los Angeles date feels especially appropriate. This city has enough performers, rehearsal rooms, and aggressively specific character voices to populate a small country. I’m curious how the tour format holds onto that live-wire uncertainty once it leaves the usual improv ecosystem.
