Ted Lasso premiere breaks Apple TV viewing record
Ted Lasso’s Biggest Premiere Comes With a Measurement Asterisk
The numbers for Ted Lasso Season 4 are impressive: Nielsen estimated 7.1 million views and 296.6 million viewing minutes across August 4 and 5. That made it Apple TV’s biggest premiere and the most-streamed U.S. program on August 5, according to Variety’s report.
I’m interested in the distinction between a strong launch and a durable audience. Streaming estimates are useful, but they do not tell us yet how many viewers finish the season, return weekly, or bring new people in. Still, sports culture remains remarkably good at turning a television show into a shared appointment.
