Spider Man Hulk footage makes Comic Con an event
The Hulk Fight Is Exactly What Comic-Con Footage Is For
Spider-Man and the Punisher fighting the Hulk in the newly shown Spider-Man: Brand New Day footage is not a plot summary. It is a very efficient public demonstration of scale: bring three recognizable characters into one room, let the crowd react, and send the reaction far beyond Hall H.
That is the useful context around Marvel’s July 26 Comic-Con presentation. The footage was shown at the San Diego panel, then quickly circulated through live coverage and fan reports. My understanding is that we still know very little about how this fits into the finished film, so treating the clip as a complete story would be premature.
The event is part of the product Comic-Con is often described as marketing, which is true but incomplete. It is also a temporary civic space with its own rituals: people queue for hours, share information, and turn a limited in-person experience into a distributed media event. The scarcity is doing real work.
I am curious whether theatrical releases will keep relying on these large fan gatherings, or whether the next stage is smaller previews distributed more deliberately. Either way, Spider-Man versus the Hulk is a remarkably clear message: this film intends to be an event.
