MoMA retrospective shows Duchamp beyond the urinal

Duchamp Was More Than the Urinal

MoMA’s Marcel Duchamp retrospective closed on August 22, but this reminder from the museum is still useful. The important story is not just the famous urinal. Duchamp spent six decades testing who gets to define an artwork, how institutions assign value, and whether an ordinary object can change the terms of looking.

That argument now sits inside museums, galleries, design, and advertising. I may be missing context, but the exhibition’s long career view seems more revealing than treating Duchamp as a single provocation.
