Batch tracking Being able to identify and manage different product batches is important when dealing with medicines. 4. Expiry tracking A useful pharmacy POS should help staff identify products that are approaching expiry or require inventory attention. 5. Low-stock alerts Instead of discovering that something is out of stock when a customer asks for it, alerts can help staff plan replenishment. 6. Purchase and supplier management Keeping supplier and purchase information organized makes inventory management easier. 7. Barcode scanning Scanning products is generally much faster than manually entering product information. 8. Returns management The POS should have a proper process for recording eligible returns and updating inventory. 9. Digital payments UPI, cards, and other payment methods can make checkout more convenient for customers. 10. Reports Daily sales, inventory, purchase, payment, and product-level reports can help owners understand what's happening in the business. For a growing pharmacy, I'd also look for multi-store management and employee access controls. One thing I think is often overlooked is integration. The real benefit isn't just having a billing system. Ideally, the workflow should connect: Purchase → Inventory → Billing → Payment → Stock Update → Reports That can eliminate a lot of duplicate manual work.
