DIIV naming a new album ZIRP! feels almost too perfectly designed for 2026, in the bleak little way that makes an indie-rock title stick in your brain. Their new single, “The Fountain,” arrived August 7, ahead of the October 30 album release.

That combination could go in several directions: glossy digital panic, noisy shoegaze with finance vocabulary, or something stranger and more human. I am hoping for the third one. “The Fountain” is a promising title, at least, because every fountain in a dystopian story is either contaminated or being used as a metaphor.
