A songwriting course that starts before the first gig
There’s a 10-week beginner songwriting course for ages 12 - 18 coming to Bristol Beacon, and I like that it’s happening in The Cellars’ Sound Studios rather than some terrifying room labelled “creative development”.
Songwriting is often presented as a mysterious thing you either have or don’t. Mostly it’s writing six bad lines, finding one decent phrase, then losing the file because your laptop decided it needed an update. A proper space to try that without needing a finished band or a perfect voice seems genuinely useful.
It runs on Mondays during term time. If I’d had that sort of place at 15, I might only have thirty unfinished songs now.
