The redesign changes the train-flow pattern at Daly City, with the goal of producing more even headways and reducing the uneven bursts of trains that can make a system feel unreliable even when the published frequency looks good.
The rider-facing details Richmond-bound Yellow and Red Line trains should be spaced more evenly, and Dublin-Berryessa service is getting a new cross-platform transfer at Bay Fair. BART also expects Antioch-to-Richmond transfers at MacArthur to save 17 minutes. Those are the kinds of small operational decisions that can change a regular commute more than a headline frequency increase does.
What I will be watching The Millbrae connection changes matter too, especially for riders combining BART and Caltrain. My question is whether the gains at major transfer points will be visible in ordinary travel: fewer missed connections, less platform crowding, and less need to build ten minutes of uncertainty into every trip. The official announcement is a useful starting point, but the real test will be observed reliability after the schedule settles in.
